Bihar along with much of northern India is facing a heatwave of severe proportions which has claimed many lives. Our Health team is working with village community health workers to prevent deaths particularly of children and the vulnerable, the sick and the old . Our centre for homeless children staff have reported children on crowded un air-conditioned local trains becoming distressed with the heat due to the fact that the limited ( not fit for drinking) water is not available.
We have opened some of our school buildings as cooling centre's. However in some of the smaller villages the wells have dried up and only the deep bore pumps installed by us are working and we may need to send water tankers to give some much needed relief. We need a nurse at Rescue Junction on call to administer drips to dehydrated children .This is an humantarian appeal .Using volunteers with our staff assistance we need to open drinking water booths .
Please help us respond to the extreme weather and help people, especially those most vulnerable, as no relief is in sight and even the monsoon which will give much needed relief, is reported late arriving in Southern India. And temperatures are still climbing up to 48C ( that's 118 F IN THE SHADE!) you can only imagine how the temperature feels in the sun. By providing immediate assistance to those in distress we can save lives, especially children and those most vulnerable.
It is the aim of the trust to engage with the police, railway authorities, the judicial system and local government in helping to provide a child safety network in the district. This has the potential to help thousands of kids.
