In the rural town of Gbawe, Ghana, there is only one free public school and it is extremely over-crowded with up to 65 students per class. High illiteracy and unemployment prevent many families from being able to afford other schools that charge fees and many children dropout to work. The literacy rate in Ghana is just 71.5% and huge gaps remain between literate men and women. Extreme poverty, illiteracy, and a lack of proper education trap many families in a cycle of deprivation.
Sara is 9 years old and will receive an excellent education by going to the good quality school in the area. This is a life-changing event in her life because here she will learn Math, English, Science, Art and make friends. Because Sara is an orphan under the care of her aging grandmother, your help sending Sara to school will give her a better life and education.
The project strives to provide quality education for the children in needs, to improve their health and social conditions, attitude changes and increased self-esteem, an increased sense of belonging within the communities.
