Within a few months of Nicole marrying and moving overseas her husband, she became pregnant with Jana. The abuse started while Nicole was pregnant. After Jana was born, the abuse continued for several years, her husband always crying and apologizing promising it would never happen again. One day her husband hit Jana and Nicole called us for help. It took several months to get Nicole and Jana out and back to the USA. Now Nicole needs to start over with Jana and needs help.
American mothers who flee foreign countries to escape domestic violence and come back home to the USA face tremendous challenges. Those challenges continue once they get back; finding resources, a safe place to stay and re-establishing their lives. Due to financial cuts to social services, these mothers and children have difficulty and often face homelessness. Unfortunately, Nicole and Jana's situation happens far too often.
Nicole is a dynamic, resourceful mother and feels she will get back on her feet quickly. With $500 Nicole and Jana will be able to secure housing and pay for some basic needs and utilities during this transition from living in danger to living in safety.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
