Dixie is getting ready to flee her abusive husband and come back to the USA with her precious Golden Retriever Bandit. We have been able to secure shelter for Dixie but they don't allow pets. There is a foster family that is willing to take Bandit until Dixie is able to get out of shelter. We need $300 for hosting fees and another $120 for food for Bandit, for a total of $420.
American women who flee home to the USA for safety with pets often have to go into a domestic violence shelter. Very few shelters accept pets. We do our best to match foster families with incoming pets of domestic violence victims to help make the international transition smooth.
Dixie will be able to be safe in shelter and Bandit will be safe in a foster home close by. Dixie can visit Bandit anytime she wants, putting her mind at ease. This will enable Dixie to focus on getting her own place where she and Bandit can live together, safely, in a home without violence.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
