Social and political transformations require active citizens that can take part in sociopolitical realities. In Colombia, we have suffered for more than 50 years an internal conflict that has generated violent and degrading ways to live and relate with others. GOOD CITIZENS is a project that works for the transformation of political culture in youth by generating sociopolitical awareness and criteria. This is what we aim to change!
Social and political transformation is a long term process that requires an informed and active citizenry that engages in community empowerment. If we shape young people to be sensible and committed to participate in political and social activities then they will have greater capacity to create strategies, civic engagement and influence toward necessary change.
Usually we think that social and economic problems are politician's responsibility because they are the ones who take society's' most important decisions. GOOD CITIZENS is an educational project that through playful and innovative methodologies seeks to empower youth about political issues as democracy, political mechanisms of participation, rule of law, etc. allowing them to develop knowledge and skills that will let them lead and participate in social change.
GOOD CITIZENS aims to impact 600 students in 6 months, by rolling out workshops in public and private educational institutions in Medellin, Colombia. The long-term outcomes of this project is a mobilized generation of youth with developed democratic values, skills, abilities, ideas and reflections to generate social thinking, social responsibility and social leadership to impact their future and that of their community.
