The project, Free 'X', is led by Chuka Ekweogwu and a team of 4 passionate youth addressing the need to create a hands-on training initiative to stop discrimination and isolation of ex-convicted women in the United Arab Emirates.
Often a forgotten demographic, women in prison not only must struggle with the circumstances they face as convicts. The harder reality is waiting for them upon their release. They will be isolated, outcasts with out-dated skills and no support system. In Dubai, female ex-convicts once released, often flounder.
The Free 'X' Project is a 3 month training program for female inmates in Dubai to help them develop the reading, writing, public speaking and basic computer skills toward careers and employability in administration while achieving new found resilience and self reliance as they return to society. This project solves the problem of confidence, employability, and social acceptance of ex-convicted females in Dubai.
The most critical impact of this project will be the successful transition of 10 female ex-convicts into new lives. Specifically, these women will walk away with improved reading, writing, public speaking and computer skills. The end point of this program will be to support these women in securing employment and settlement supports as they reintegrate into society.
