Dear Friends,

It is with pleasure that we share the following report from Joseph Hindogbae Kposowa, the leader of the project, "Environmental Education in Rurual Sierra Leone." We'd like to sincerely thank all those who donated to this project to help Hindo's community of Bumpe, to raise awareness about health and environmental issues to raise the quality of life for many.

~ The TakingITGlobal Team

Sierra Leone is one the developing countries where a lot people suffer and die from Cholera, Malaria and Typhoid. Couple with the hundreds of death during the raining season last year, I was happy when I gained an online scholarship from TiGed to participate in their Environmental Stewardship E-Course for five weeks.

With sincerity, I dedicated my time and energy to the course to offer my experience not only to the students and staff of Bumpe High School, but also the community people. At the completion of the course, I wrote a Project on Waste Control in the School and community with the following objectives:

  1. To introduce the teaching of Environmental Courses
  2. To train other teachers on how to teach Environmental courses
  3. To teach and equip students as agents to keep the school and communities clean to avoid diseases and
  4. To create awareness among community people on the usefulness of keeping the Environment Clean as well as preserving it.

Through the help of TakingITGlobal, the project was launched on Give for Youth website for donation with a goal of $500 (Canadian), $485 USD from December 2012-May 2013.

On the 15th June I received the sum of $500 from TakingITGlobal for the implementation of my project in Bumpe High School-Bumpe.

The $500 was used to purchase wheelbarrows, shovels for keeping the community and school compound clean, printing of T-shirts for creating awareness among students and parents and the construction of trash bin in the school compound.  (please see photos in previous emails)

The students in Bumpe High School and community people can boast of firm awareness of reasons for keeping their Environment clean to protect themselves from Cholera, Malaria, typhoid etc
