This project will provide funds for education for the children in the Help Destitute Moms with AIDS Care for Their Kids whom we provide tutoring ( $ 15-mo) We buy school supplies and uniforms ($ 25 per child) We provide the small fees students in public school must pay to the teacher. Without these funds, many students are ridiculed, ignored or given failing grades by the teacher, so these fees are essential if students are to successfully access so called " public" education.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Children from families impacted by HIV/AIDS have little opportunity for education without outside support. Support includes supplies, education, tutuoring and " tea money " to pay teacher fees demanded to provide access to lessons and exams. Teachers are poorly paid so there is a long history that teachers require small additional fees from students. Poor students have no money for the fees and so cannot receive equal treatment or access to education.
How will this project solve this problem?
Provide the resouces for the children to have equal access to the supposedly " free" public education system.
Potential Long Term Impact
The FSP protects children from trafficking and victimization by empowering the with education combined with a stable home environment that will allow them to break out of the cycle of inherited poverty. Our system of humane assistance for parents suffering from AIDS combined with strong focus on education has over the past 15 years enabled many of the children in the program to complete middle school, high school and now some are in college.
