NFTE South Florida students with digital resources

Unfortunately, NFTE South Florida’s GlobalGiving project to provide the resources of our innovative Digital Classroom to two new groups of students did not reach it’s funding goal.  Thanks so much to those who did donate, we appreciate all the efforts you have made to bring our students entrepreneurial dreams to life.  Even without reaching our goal on GlobalGiving, we were able to get our students the digital resources they need, allowing them to access online research resources, learn the ins-and-outs of modern technology, connect electronically with business mentors, and so much more.  The goal of NFTE is to get students thinking in an entrepreneurial mindset, so they will stay engaged in their education and pursue goals that will better prepare them for future success.  NFTE’s class, a ‘mini-MBA’, provides them to the tools to do so.

Tech businesses continue to be a theme across the country for NFTE’s young entrepreneurs as we completed another season of business plan competitions.  At the end of the NFTE course, the students take the entrepreneurship lessons they have learned and create their own idea for a business, pitching their startup to a panel of judges in the hopes of winning seed capital. Kevin D. of Sunrise, Florida create a tech business based on his own frustration.  Like many college-bound students, Kevin found his search for appropriate scholarships frustrating.  “Having to read scholarships that didn’t appeal to me was a waste of time.”  So Kevin created Easy Scholars; an app that pinpoints applicable college scholarships based on interest and specific-user compatibility, tracking them for you.  Kevin is enthusiastic about the impact his app will have on others his age: “This app brings vast opportunities to the future leaders of tomorrow.  Not only do I want this app to find scholarships for students but motivate more students to go to college.”  He plans to major in either engineering or computer science in college.

Thank you again for your contributions to NFTE through the GlobalGiving platform!  Your contributions are helping students like Kevin fully realize the potential of their entrepreneurial mindset.
