What makes the Traveler programme stand out from the crowd is that the kids are able to choose the type of trip they go on. They plan the route, decide what to see, and when possible either partially or fully pay the trip expenses. Our students proposed where to go, and now almost all the kids have a role in organizing the trip (reserving hotel rooms, planning the route, etc.). Orphanage children make their own decisions what occur very rare.
It is hard to dazzle orphanage children with various trips and tours. The entire group is taken to various events on a regular basis, but most of the time their interests and desires are not accounted for, often making them disinterested and detached from these trips.
We have another way of trip organization. The educational trip will be from 9 to 13 July 2014, with six students and two teachers taking part. The trip will take them through Veliky Novgorod, Valdai, Vyshny Volochok, and Torzhok. Our students proposed by themselves where to go, and now almost all the kids have a role in organizing the trip (reserving hotel rooms, planning the route, etc). They are also putting together Window to Novgorod miniature conferences to be better prepared for the trip.
Every year around 60 orphaned children and youth at "Big Change" are getting education, entering a college and obtaining desired profession. Which takes them to the point of being able to lead independent life, i.e. making independent decisions, being responsible.
