From preschool through second grade, children are most receptive to learning language through music. Having the chance to sing, strum and create can make the greatest possible difference in their development. But many thousands of students are missing out on music because funding is scarce and more often goes to programs in grades 4-12. This microproject gives you a way to make that difference for one group of young students where you can witness the benefits your gift will make possible!
Children in high poverty kindergartens and primary grades are commonly deprived of musical opportunities at school. This occurs during the window in their development when learning both language and music can happen with the greatest ease and speed, making more success possioble as they grow. Worse yet, in the current educational climate, young students are being pushed to achieve goals earlier and to measure up on standardized tests. Stress and faIlure to progress have become the norm.
By adopting a special classroom, your gift will bring deep musical learning with GITC instruction, instruments and teaching artistry to a high poverty classroom in Los Angeles or San Diego County. You can choose to follow the class progress. (In time we'll expand the regions where adoptions are possible.) Your charity will support 20-25 young students to develop and improve their language and musical skills together at school every day, improving their chances for succeeding in school and life!
This project will instill a life-long love of music and learning & the experience of academic success in young students from 10 high poverty classrooms. They will acquire foundational musical skills, listening skills, self control, fine motor coordination, practice and confidence using expressive language. The training you make possible will last for years to come as participating teachers continue to integrate music making and language learning in their classrooms for years to come!
