It will change the life of this precious young boy who deals with seizures on on a regular basis. Seizure response dogs are a special type of service dog, specifically trained to help someone who has epilepsy or a seizure disorder. The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation is currently fundraising to be able to provide a grant to Parker. Due to the differing needs between each case, every potential seizure dog receives specialized training.
One of the greatest fears is that Parker will have a seizure alone or without his family's knowledge while he is sleeping or playing. Having a seizure-response dog (SRD) for him will help him with comfort and companionship during seizures. It will also allow for early detection and in time, alert his family that Parker needs help. A SRD can also give Parker a little courage while helping him maintain his independence.
Above all, a SRD will help keep Parker safe, and bring peace of mind to his family knowing there is always a set of eyes on him. The benefits of having a SRD as a companion and friend are priceless. In addition to providing emotional support in the various medical environments, an SRD can bring with them the miracles that arise in every service dog provided to children with any disability. Seizures are the number symptom of Sturge Weber Syndrome (SWS) which is Parker's diagnosis.
This particular project will provide seizure-response dogs for people living with epilepsy, greatly increasing their chances of surviving life-threatening episodes that may arise. This project will also raise awareness about SUDEP to encourage further support of individuals living with epilepsy, their families, and their communities.
