Mission
Peruvian Heart believes in the value and dignity of each child and strives to enrich the lives of orphans and other children living in poverty in Peru through improved nutrition, education, and health care.
Peruvian Hearts also works to connect with youth around the United States and promote the message and values of philanthropy and service to others. We want to inspre kids and help them realize that regardless of their age, they have the power and ability to make a significant difference and help change the world.
Programs
Hogar Mercedes - Peruvian Hearts is the sole support for the wonderful girls who live at the Hogar Mercedes near Cusco, Peru. The Hogar is home to twenty-seven girls between the ages of 6 and seventeen years of age who come from very chaotic backgrounds. Peruvian Hearts helps to uplift and empower these girls first by making sure each girl’s basic needs are met and secondly providing them with improved educational opportunities such as private schooling, additional daily tutoring, English classes, computer classes, music lessons, and other vocational skills that will help enable these girls to have more opportunities and fulfil their dreams.
Nutrition for Change - Peruvian Hearts provides a daily breakfast, lunch and a multi-vitamin to hundreds of malnourished school children through school nutrition programs. Many of these children walk 2-3 hours each way to and from school and often this will be the only nutrition they will receive. Before Peruvian Hearts started its Nutrition for Change programs, attendance was lower, children fell asleep in class and could not focus because they were hungry and malnourished. The implementation of these nutrition programs had increased daily attendance dramatically and children now have an easier time focusing and paying attention during their classes.
