Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF)

The Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF; formerly the Nepalese Youth Opportunity Foundation, NYOF) is devoted to bringing hope to the most destitute children in the beautiful but impoverished Himalayan country of Nepal. With a personal touch, we provide these children with what should be every child's birthright - education, housing, medical care, and loving support. Empowered to reach their potential, these children blossom, enriching the world we all share.

Young Girl Educating Mothers on Children's Rights
Because most of the villages are illiterate, it is most effective to have the rescued girls who have been previously sold into bondage explain the dangers to the mothers. The girls know first hand how abusive the situation is, and why the mothers should not allow their young girls to be subjected to this custom. (view small | med | large | orig)

The average annual income in Nepal is only $200. The families don't want to sell their daughters, but they cannot feed their other children without the $50 they receive for their daughters. NYOF gives each family a goat which they can raise on food scraps and sell for more than they would have received for their daughters. NYOF provides these young girls with an education through 10th grade (U.S. high school equivalent). (view small | med | large | orig)
