The institutional strengthening of these organizations requires to build and improve their capacities to provide better services, to be more effective mobilizing resources, to monitor and evaluate projects and to have up to date and relevant information according to the national and international context. Makaia means "to build" or "make" in Miskito (Indigenous Language from Honduras). The name represents Makaias objective of building alliances and relationships oriented to the social and economic development.

Programs

Makaia develops its work in three different areas: Internal Management, External Management and Knowledge Management. The first one (Internal Management) is related to the administrative, financial, control, strategic, leadership and empowerment processes that take place within a social organization or project. As part of this program Makaia has worked with vulnerable communities (women, children, indigenous peoples, Afro population, people with disabilities, among others) empowering and strengthening them through ICT. So far, more than 12.000 people from different target groups have benefitted from Makaias work. The second area of work (External Management) is related to the resource mobilization and identification of opportunities for social organizations. Its objective is to improve the international links of social organizations and projects. The last one (Knowledge Management) is related to the development of publications, impact assessments, development and production of virtual contents, assessment and strategy formulation for local development plans.
