Mission

YACHAY WASI is a Quechua expression (the ancient language of the Incas), which means "house of learning". This is what we have named this non-profit association, which hopes to open doors to culture and education, by inspiring an interest in reading, culture, sport, art and knowledge. Our mission is to complement and contribute to the formal and informal education of children and adolescents in the district of Ollantaytambo, offering various educational and recreational alternatives and activities. We are interested in forming people who are reflective, creative, critical, secure in themselves, motivated and balanced, transmitting to them good values and providing them with tools that they can use to participate in the modern world.

Programs

We currently have two main projects: -"Stable Interactive Library Yachay-Wasi" The current project is administrated by the Casa Cultural - Biblioteca (Cultural Center and Library) created in 2009 in which various activities and educational-recreational workshops are carried out for children and adolescents. Our intention is to offer new and varied alternatives for children and adolescents in the district of Ollantaytambo, providing them with a more complete culture and education. We help them with their school homework and offer different workshops where they can learn useful abilities. Families of these children are functionally illiterate, most of them unemployed or with temporary work, and a high percentage of them living below the poverty line. We need to break this poverty cycle by improving education and encouraging children to remain at school. -Yachay Wasi Day Care Center We want to offer high quality education; which respects and salvages the traditions and customs of the area: which is multicultural and inclusive, which attend to children of all social classes and varying abilities; which has an ecological vision where the environment is respected and protected; which offers spaces dedicated to art, theatre, music, sport, self-expression and other activities which contribute to the physical and emotional development of a child; which provides a personalised education based on the theory of multiple-disciplinary learning, identifying and emphasising the talents of each individual child. We also want to give this children a complete noutrition program, by providing balanced breakfast and lunch every day. And, fundamentality, we want to be a space where the girls and boys can enjoy themselves whilst they learn, where they cared for and where they can feel happy and loved, while their mothers and fathers can be working and contributing to the family economy.
