After 2 tropical storms in July and October, severe flooding in 60 provinces has devastated the country and affected an estimated 9 million people. World Vision is responding by providing survival kits to families and setting-up Child-Friendly-Spaces, giving children a safe and fun environment while also providing psychological support.
The worst flooding in Thailand in 50 years has left Bangkok and over 60 provinces under water. Children and families are left homeless with no way to provide for themselves. Flood waters become contaminated when survivors are forced to relieve themselves in the water around their homes, and when sewage systems and septic tanks flood. World Vision staff have seen increased cases of fever and diarrhea as children typically like to play in dirty flood water.
World Vision's response will focus on providing assistance to families in affected areas not yet reached by government assistance. WV will ensure target families and children have access to food and other essentials through distributions of Survival Kits, and will provide children with access to a safe, clean environment and psychological support by setting-up Child Friendly Spaces. Project locations: Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Uthai Thani, Chainat, and Khon Kaen provinces, Bangkok
Distribution of over 10,000 survival kits - benefitting over 40,000 people / 6 (with 8 more potential) Child Friendly Spaces - giving children a safe (clean) environment with structure and continuity - benefitting over 700 children / Also plans to distribute disposable toilets, water purification tablets, mosquito nets and blankets to provide clean water and safe hygiene.
