Medical teams will set up camps in rural areas to care for those in coastal areas affected by the tsunami.
The tsunami destroyed medical clinics and equipment in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu state in India. Teams of medical personnel need support to care for the tens of thousands of people injured in the Kanchipuram district. Many of the affected are fisherman which is economically an important sector of the population.
The medical teams will work with community programs to provide relief in rural villages and fishing towns. Activities will include direct medical care and donations of necessary items like clothes and supplies.
Damaged medical camps will be repaired and new camps will treat some of the estimated 10,000 people injured. Teams will also distribute donated supplies to affected areas.
