Jacqueline Lee is an InTheField Traveler with GlobalGiving who is visiting our partners’ projects throughout Southeast Asia. Her “Postcard” from the visit in Indonesia:
On July 19, I visited PUSPEM's tree cultivation project. In comparison to photos taken when they were planted, they have grown very tall. We stopped to speak with people in the area about the benefits of the trees. 2 young girls said they come to the area to sit and hang out because now it is cooler and nicer.
According to Andi, the trees were ordered to be planted here due to flooding and the area was very hot and polluted. 2 local vendors shared with me how now it is not as hot, more customers come to the area, and now there is no more flooding. It is better for their small businesses selling food on the roadside.
It was a productive site visit and nice to see first hand the impact the trees make today.

We are and people nature lovers and say thank you very much for all your helps so that this program can be carry out. Also a big thanks to GlobalGiving team who have helped us in fundrising.
This tree planting program has lasted more than a year, although the results are less than the maximum of this program will continue. This reforestation program is divided in three locations: West Java, Yogyakarta and Aceh. fundamental cause of the lack of this program is the lack of the maximum budget we get from online fundraising. About 3 weeks from now (March 14, 2012) GlobalGiving Bonus Day, we hope that you participate in this program so that this greening program can obtain a sufficient budget to continue this program. We also look forward to the donors to tell your family, friends and colleagues for the success of this reforestation program.
Government of Indonesia recently launched a new program related to the greening "5 trees for one person". This program is expected to foster public awareness of the importance of maintaining the balance of the earth with a lot of planting trees and maintaining them.
In the next year we will assist the government program (5 trees for 1 person) to socialize to people and plant the trees as much as possible in order to greening Indonesia.
For that in implementing the above, we would need a huge budget, so we still expect attention and assistance from donors to continue to help us through this reforestation program.
In 2010, we have received a budget of $ 3.243 from the donors, the budget has been used to implement reforestation programs in Indonesia, be it counseling on the importance of planting trees and maintaining them.
We thank you very much for all your attention and your help in 2011, we look forward to the donors in 2012 to continue to assist us in implementing a forestation programs in Indonesia in particular. We congratulate Happy New Year 2012, hopefully in 2012 you always have good luck and success Our Salute Team PUSPEM Foundation
Dear the Donors
We have obtained a quote for plant this pentadesma butyracea trees because these trees for reforestation and also the fruit can be beneficial for oil production.
The vegetable fat extracted from the seed is in good demand from the global food and confectionery industries, if it is produced in a sustainable manner. Pentadesma fat is extracted with simple technology, is a very good cooking fat, a vegetable fat spread can be produced and can be converted to biodiesel even on a small scale.
Prof. V.K.S. Shukla (www.ifsc.dk) and Hemal De Silva have carried out extensive research on the species
Our team in Aceh has provided 250 acres of land for planting this tree. but the obstacles we face is the cost to cultivate this land is very expensive, so expect help from the donors to realize our ideals.
