Spring Update!

Dear AfricAid supporters,

We are constantly seeking out creative ways to bring textbooks into Tanzanian classrooms.

That's why last December, AfricAid launched an e-reader program at one of our primary schools, Upendo. This program was made possible by a generous grant from Worldreader, a US-based non-profit that works to develop and deliver e-reader technology.

Upendo received 60 Amazon Kindle readers and the e-reader program is making a big impact. Three or four students used to share one textbook, but now students have access to thousands of books at their fingertips. And not just textbooks, but also stories and literature from both local African and international authors. One student shared that he had never read a story, just textbooks, before the e-readers were launched.

This new technology has inspired teachers and students to read, learn and explore more even on their days off. AfricAid is excited to see all the ways these e-readers will enhance and expand the educational experience of the students at Upendo Primary School.

Thank you for your support as we move closer to our goal of providing textbooks to 10 full classrooms in Tanzania.

Asante sana,

Elizabeth

January Update

Dear AfricAid supporters,

Happy 2013 to you!  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your very generous support.  Supplying textbooks is a crucial need in Tanzania where many schools operate without textbooks and many other students share 4-5 to a textbook.  Supplying textbook is a tangible, simple way to start improving the quality of education to thousands of children in Tanzania.

AfricAid is proud to partner with 9 secondary schools and 2 primary schools in the Arusha area.  We buy textbooks in Tanzania to save on shipping costs and ensure they are the correct ones to fit the curriculum.  We regularly buy batches of textbooks and deliver them to our partner schools.  Our last delivery occurred last December -- it was a wonderful holiday gift to our partner schools.

Thank you for your support as we move closer to our goal of providing textbooks to 10 full classrooms in Tanzania.

Asante sana,

Elizabeth

October Update

Children at Upendo School
Children at Upendo School

Hello dear AfricAid supporters,

Thank you so much for supporting our program to supply textbooks to students in Tanzania.  Because of your generosity, we've almost reached our goal -- only $750 left to raise and we will have completely outfitted 10 classrooms (about 400 children) at Upendo Primary School in Tanzania with necessary school text books.  In Tanzania, universal primary education is the goal and tuition is free at government schools.  However, many impoverished families struggle to pay for text books and uniforms.  AfricAid helps these families by assisting with these fees so more Taznanian children can go to school and build meaningful futures.

Your support is greatly appreciated.  Asante sana!

August 2012 Update

Hello dear AfricAid supporters,

Thank you so much for your support to help supply texbooks to classrooms in Tanzania.  We set a goal of reaching $6,000 and with the help of 126 generous donors like yourselves we only have $825 left to go!  Once we have raised this money, we can deliver text books to Tanzanian students that allow them to improve their lives and their community.  Books are such a fundamental part of education that they are often taken for granted in the U.S.  Books are vitally needed in Tanzania where students and schools often cannot afford them.

Thanks to your generous support, children throughout Tanzania will receive books to enhance their educations. An educated child will continue to improve his/her community, creating a positive impact on the entire country.

We're so grateful for you! Asante sana!

August 2011 Update

Losinoni Kids

Hello AfricAid friends and supporters,

I returned from Tanzania in June and had the pleasure of delivering books to several classrooms.  It was incredible to see the happiness and pride the children took from the books.  In Tanzania, a book is a very precious gift and the children are grateful for the opportunity to have a book and go to school.  It was heart-warming to see the children's delight and their eagerness to read and learn.

Thank you very much for your generous support.  Without you, these children likely wouldn't have school books and many sit in class trying to simply remember everything the teacher says.

At AfricAid, we're committed to growing our textbook program and will continue delivering books in Tanzania, ensuring they reach children in need who would have no other way to obtain them.  Together, we can make a difference.

Asante sana,

Elizabeth Abshire
