For over a decade, 3 Generations has been a safe harbor for survivors of atrocities to tell their stories—brutal, tragic, inspiring, uplifting—in their own words, which will be honored and preserved for future generations. 3G was founded to document and raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur: the first genocide of the 21st century. Our agenda has expanded to include the stories of survivors of genocides in Armenia, Cambodia, Rwanda, the Holocaust, Tibet, Myanmar, Iraq, and beyond.
Last month, we were honored to host the first US presentation of the Auschwitz In front of your eyes, a live guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. Conceived during the pandemic, it is an award-winning educational project created by the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation, and two Israeli tech startups: AppsFlyer and Diskin. Our team member, Alexa, described the experience as: “Harrowing and necessary. Connecting with our brilliant tour guide at the camps provided a whole other perspective and layer to our education about world atrocities and genocide. I hope that every student can have access to this program: atrocities need to be at the forefront of our discourse as we continue to strive for a better and just world.”
We then filmed the inaugural US academic presentation of the tour to Haverhill High School students in Massachusetts, which will form the basis of a short video about Auschwitz In Front of Your Eyes. Our team member, Daniel, recalls his involvement in filming: “It was beautiful to see members of Haverhill’s community come together on a Monday morning, from the teachers to the police officers, the local TV station, and the students who seemed genuinely interested and excited by the whole experience. After the guided tour, I suddenly felt the overwhelming reality that a live tour of Auschwitz was on the verge of being transported into classrooms that looked identical to this one all over the country. At that moment, I truly felt the colossal impact of this project and the effect it would have on teenagers all across America.”
3G is delighted to continue collaborating with all involved to bring this innovative program to schools and communities across the USA. Please stay tuned for updates on our work on this project.
