Summer Meals for Philly Kids

One of the hardest truths of our work is that children are by far the most impacted by food insecurity in Philadelphia, where a devastating 25.5% of kids lack the food they need to thrive.

At the Coalition Against Hunger, we know that the needs of these chlidren and their families extends beyond the summertime when school is not is session and families are challenged to provide additional meals from home. Other ways that we ensure kids and families can access the food they need are:

• Leading interactive demonstrations in schools that help students and teachers more deeply understand the causes of and solutions to food insecurity as well as how to access local and federal food assistance when they need it
• Aligning with funders who have a focus on children, like the Pincus Family Foundation, which awarded the Coalition Against Hunger a 3-year Transformational grant starting this year

As we begin to develop our materials and strategies to ensure families know how and where their children can receive free summer meals this year, we are so grateful for your support which allows us to connect over 500,000 people across the Philadelphia region with vital food resources.
