Summary
We are partnering with Swallow's Nest, an orphanage for special-needs children in Henan, China, to provide surgery for an anticipated six spina bifida patients this year.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Swallow’s Nest, a Chinese orphanage for special-needs children, receives no funding for some of its most critical needs. In 2010, we anticipate six children will need $5,000 each for corrective surgery and treatment for spina bifida. After this surgery, their chances for finding forever families will increase dramatically.
How will this project solve this problem?
Surgical intervention is absolutely necessary to address spina bifida, and provides dramatic improvements. In addition, after surgery, some children can explore further tools like walkers, leg braces, and physical therapy.
Potential Long Term Impact
Early surgical intervention offers permanent physical improvement and results in significant better quality of life. After corrective surgery, these children will also be more likely to find adoptive homes.
Project Message
The Red Thread Promise is honored to provide medical treatment to these children. With a relatively small amount of funding, we can significantly improve the lives of these children.
