In a developing country like Nepal, eye health care in the remote areas is either lacking or nonexistent. A simple school eye exam is something the students, their parents and grandparents have never had the opportunity to experience.
We have undertaken the initiative to tackle the problem of introducing eye examinations to remote areas with our school screening program. We hope to identify and treat poor eye sight by increasing the number of exams to 60,000 per year.
The improvement of the eye health has a long term effect on the social and economic condition in their regions. This is a first step in developing community based programs. This will eventually lead to permanent eye clinics being established in these remote areas.
