Project Report | Oct 12, 2022
School construction (29)

By Mabwe Lucien | Project Leader

The security situation remains worrying in our country, the Democratic Republic of Congo: the M23 rebels supported by Rwanda are still occupying the Bunagana region (approximately 6000 km2) where they have set up their own administration; a lull is observed in the Ituri region (north-east of the country); the middle and high plateaus of Fizi and Uvira remain an area of regular clashes between Tutsi and Bantu militias.

In Kazimia, near our School (50 m), the Mchibakye River has recently been a source of conflict over belonging between the Basi Ekela (Kazimia village) and Basikuma (Katondje village) clans. As a result, this river rich in fish, hippos and crocodiles belongs to the village Katondje (Decision of the Minister of the Interior of the Province of South Kivu).

Glenn Paige Nonkilling School opened its doors for the 2022-2023 school year on September 16; 133 students are registered in 3 classes. A new Nonkilling teacher has been recruited to replace the old who left for studies. The school remains free and provides breakfast to all these needy students.

We store the construction equipment that we buy as and when financial availability. Bricks and reinforcing bars are in sufficient quantity. We have to buy bags of cement to start building again.

Many thanks to our Donors for their unfailing support and let us count on their generous gifts for future steps.

God bless.
