Our "rickshaw-to-your-doorstep" service will tackle prevailing negative perceptions of disability by integrating people with disabilities into society through employment. Over the next one year, we will retrofit 20 rickshaws for accessibility and provide jobs for 46 people with various disabilities. As the project takes off, we will use the profits to create more employment opportunities. However, we want to test our idea first with just five rickshaw and need your help to make it happen!
NOWPDP has encountered numerous challenges in finding employment for people with disabilities (PWDs) due to widespread stigma and discrimination. Society focuses more on a person's disability rather than their ability. We aim to provide not only employment opportunities by hiring PWDs and retrofitting rickshaws according to their disability, but also a platform for advocacy and change in social perceptions of disability by putting PWDs in the "driving seat", both literally and figuratively!
We aim to create jobs for 46 PWDs in the first round of this project which will facilitate the integration of PWDs into society and employment while providing a safe, affordable, & convenient transport service to the public. The more profitable our project, the more jobs we will generate! But first, we want to test the model with an initial round of funding. By donating, you will enable us to retrofit 5 rickshaws, hire 10 drivers and 1 trainer, thus allowing us to begin operations!
Our project will challenge/change negative social perceptions of disability,the root cause of discrimination,by providing a moving, functioning example of inclusion and mainstreaming, with PWDs taking the lead role in this process. Your help will allow us to work out all the kinks and processes with the first five rickshaws, after which we'll be ready to expand by refitting the remaining 15 rickshaws (that's another 30 jobs for PWDs!) that have been donated to us already.
