The latest distribution of our Fenix solar and wind-up radios took place in Q4 2023. In collaboration with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), Kenya's national broadcaster, reports from our local partners are just now starting to trickle in. School has recently started again after the lengthy holiday break.
We are delighted that students are telling their teachers how useful having a radio set was over the holiday period. Families could access news, weather reports, livestock updates and agricultural advice. The students who received the radios live in deep rural areas far from towns and shops.
A schoolgirl in Narok County shared with our local partner that her parents have recently started to grow crops to provide additional food and supplement their income. Previously, they had only been livestock herders. KBC produces a program in their mother tongue, Maa, which has been extremely helpful in offering guidance in organic food production.
We will have further information during the school term when more children start to report back..
