Provide Sanctuary for Severely Abused Horses

$7,340 $2,660
Raised Remaining

Each year, Sunkissed Acres provides emergency rescue and shelter for horses in North Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. Many of these horses will be rehabilitated and find forever homes with loving families. Those who are very old, or have serious health issues will remain, and offered sanctuary to live out their days in peace, surrounded by compassionate volunteers who understand their many challenges. Sunkissed Acres has been approved as a Global Federation Of Animal Sanctuaries Facility.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Senior, and many horses with special needs, face increasing risk of abuse and neglect due to the economic downturn. These horses have much to offer, but homes that have the experience or financial ability to care for them are difficult to find. Sunkissed Acres provides refuge for 20 of these incredible horses, and each day more are in need of shelter while they wait for loving homes or permanent sanctuary. The acreage is available to expand, but we lack the funding to bring it to fruition.

How will this project solve this problem?

With funding, we will be able to expand our retirement pastures with safe fencing and two or more new shelters for horses in need. The shelters provide a refuge from the summer heat, rain and wind and secure, safely fenced pastures ensure that the horses can enjoy their remaining days in peace. With the expansion funded, Sunkissed Acres will be able to offer sanctuary to additional horses in need, and more effectively managed the current residents.

Potential Long Term Impact

Recently legislation was passed that would allow the slaughter of horses in America. The horses that find themselves in need of the services that Sunkissed Acres offers are exactly the type who are the typical slaughter bound horse. Old, with needs, and are no longer able to be useful to their owner. These horses deserve a peaceful and dignified end to a life filled with service to mankind. Your support will make that possible for the current horses, and hundreds more in the years to come.
