Prevent Cervical Cancer in Nepal

This Sunday, May 11th, we celebrate mothers day in the United States. Regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, geographical location or religious beliefs, all mothers have one thing in common - their cervix played a vital role in the creation and perhaps the birth of a human.  

Every year, more than 270,000 mothers and mothers to be die from a preventable condition, that affects their cervix - cervical cancer. More than 85% of those who die from this preventable cancer of the cervix live in the developing world. We can prevent these deaths by screening these mothers and mothers to be for cervical cancer and providing treatment at an early stage. 

The Binaytara Foundation has begun a fight against this preventable cancer. But we need your help in this fight against cervical cancer and the fight for life of those women who, without the help of people like you, would die from this preventable condition: Cervical Cancer. 

Those who die from the cervical cancer are or would have been someone’s mother. Your $10 can help save lives of these mothers. Please make a donation to the BTF’s pilot cervical cancer screening project in honor of mother and the organ that helped you be part of this world : Cervix. 

We understand your busy schedule does not allow you to go through our project description. To make it brief and easy to understand, we have created a short FAQ about the cervical screening project below:

Remind me what your plan is.

This pilot project is designed to screen 1000  low income women from rural areas of Kathmandu district in Nepal for cervical cancer. We will also provide follow up care based on the results of the screening. 

How much do you need to screen one woman?

Only $5. Yes, that is less than what 2 cups of your morning latte cost. Your $5 has a potential to help save life of a woman living in a remote village in Nepal. 

Where will you spend the money I donate?

The proceeds will be used to purchase the PAP smear kits,  to purchase speculums ( equipment used to open the birth canal while obtaining the pap smear sample from the cervix) to purchase autoclave supply ( the procedure used to keep the harmful bugs out of the equipment), and to purchase antibiotics and medications for follow up care. A small percentage of the money will also be used to create educational materials about cervical cancer prevention. 

How about the human resource, who will pay the doctors, nurses and allied health professionals who help with the screening?

Thanks to the dedicated volunteers of our partner organization, cancer care nepal, the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals will be generously volunteering their time and skills for this project free of charge. 

OK, that is great. What is the next?

The Binaytara foundation disbursed $2500 USD to the project partner organization cancer care Nepal last month. The initial participants enrollment has begun in Kathmandu. After the enrollment and scheduling of the participants is completed, the screening will take place. The participants will be provided follow up care based on their results.

Depending on the success and feasibility of the pilot project, we will continue or modify the plan to screen more women for cervical cancer.
