Smiling Faces of abandoned elderly mothers

Joy of Celebration with Flowers
Joy of Celebration with Flowers

Every time I enter MaitriGhar Ashram, home for the elderly and abandoned mothers, I see their radiant smiling faces, it makes my heart fill with joy. These vulnerable women had lived their last 15-20 years in utter destitutaion after being abandoned by their close ones. Having found shelter at Maitri, they have regained identity, dignity and respect. To understand a woman recognising that she has an identity of her own and not dependant on external circumstances and she has a right to her dignity changes her way of thinking and her approach to life.

With your support, we have been able to bring about changes in their thinking, mindset from being victims to women of substance. Maitri has been engaging in celebrating festivals with the elederly, abandoned mothers, 2024 was special that they themselves asked for Holi, the festival of colours, to be celebrated with the beat of drums. Pictures speak for themselves. Their joy knew no bounds, they could not contain their excitement. As the day dawned, they were ready with 25 tonnes of marigold and rose petals and teh ashram decortaed to celebrate Holi. This year they were celebrating their freedom from regressive thought process and customs where any colour or joy in life was taboo.

You made it possibel for them to live life on their own terms. With Dignity. With Joy. With Identity of their own. No more Taboos.
