Summary

A tornado, perhaps a mile wide, caused massive destruction in Moore, OK, a suburb outside of Oklahoma City. This fund will provide emergency supplies and relief to victims as well as fund longer-term rebuilding and recovery efforts, supporting organizations like Save the Children, Do Your Part, Kids in Distressed Situations (KIDS), and others responding to the disaster.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The suburb of Moore, OK was severely damaged by the massive tornado that struck on May 20, 2013. Emergency relief efforts are underway. This fund will provide both short and long term assistance to victims.

How will this project solve this problem?

This fund will support disaster recovery and relief efforts in the aftermath of tornadoes in Oklahoma. Initial funds will help survivors and victims get necessary supplies including food, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once these needs are met, remaining funds will go towards longer term rebuilding and recovery efforts.

Potential Long Term Impact

Major disasters always require a huge amount of support to provide both immediate relief and recovery. Organizations that are deeply-rooted in local communities are often the in the best position to provide long-term support for disaster victims. Once recovery work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts by those types of organizations. Follow the "reports" tab for updates about how the fund is disbursed and put to work.
