Supporting Nurse's Training for Women in Guatemala

The Healthcare Program is our newest program. It was initiated with a scholarship for Josefina in January 2022. She was joined in the program by Sandra in July 2022. Sandy started her training in January 2023.

As navigating the difficult nurses’ training is a challenge, Karyn Choy, a professional nurse, was hired as a mentor for the young women. She meets with them monthly to support them academically and emotionally and is available if they need to talk through anything during the month. All three are benefitting from her knowledge and experience.

Josefina received her practical nurse’s certificate in January of 2023. She opted to start a pharmacy in her village. She sells medicine and provides routine healthcare for people in the area. Karyn has been able to support her with advice as she put her knowledge into practice. Having Karyn available gives her more confidence as she gains experience.

Sandy finishes her studies this month. She will be studying hard to be ready
to take the exam to receive her license.

Sandra is finding balancing all her responsibilities a challenge. She is in the most difficult part of her studies. Karyn has been a great moral support. She is persevering despite the struggle. The financial support as well as the support from Karyn keeps her going.
