MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue saves hundreds of domestic, unreleasable birds in the San Francisco Bay Area from euthanasia in animal shelters by providing veterinary care, foster and forever homes. MickaCoo closes a gap in the animal rescue community. Smart, gentle, innocent domestic pigeons and doves, bred to be dependent by humans, can't live free and need help to be adopted. Animal shelters need help to meet this challenge. Euthanasia should not be used as an alternative to adoption.
People don't realize that animal shelters are routinely euthanizing adoptable domestic, unreleasable pigeons and doves for lack of homes. Potential adopters are completely unaware that these lovely birds are available and in need of homes while breeders are continuing to advertise and sell birds. Smart, gentle, innocent pigeons and doves, bred to be dependent on humans, need rescue, foster homes, vet care, adoption and humane advocacy.
MickaCoo saves homeless domestic pigeons & doves in the SF/Bay Area from euthanasia (more than 500 since 2007). MickaCoo mobilizes hundreds of supporters and volunteers to help publicize these overlooked companion birds; fundraises to provide avian vet care and placement services when shelters cannot; educates at fairs and outreach events and carefully screens, approves and supports adopters to provide nonbreeding, responsible forever homes.
Already MickaCoo has increased awareness and support for the plight of pigeons and doves. Shelters in the SF/Bay Area no longer euthanize these innocent birds but instead work with MickaCoo to publicize and care for them until foster or forever homes are available. Prior to MickaCoo, there was a fatal gap in our animal rescue community. We were failing to meet humane responsibilities. By generating compassion for humble pigeons & doves, we model that all can be adopted rather than euthanized.
My beautiful, adopted king pigeons enrich my life in so many ways. It's an honor to volunteer for an organization that provides care and safe placement for domestic pigeons and doves in need of love.
