Support to Communities NGO will provide access to gynecological / medical care to about 500 women in remote, the most vulnerable and poorest villages in Armenia. It will include preventive care with gynecological / cancer screening and general medical examinations organized by medical specialists outreach visits. It will provide also an access to proper in-depth diagnostic evaluation and specialized treatments, including organizing full access to inpatient care and surgeries to those who need it
The remote Armenian villages are in poor socio-economic situation. One of the reasons is the persistent hostilities with neighboring Azerbaijan. In such conditions people have almost no access to medical care. And the women are the most vulnerable part of the population. In those villages they never had basic medical examinations such as mammography or ultrasound screening. As a result they detect cancer and other serious health conditions when it is too late to treat and many die at young age.
We will organize outreach visits of medical specialists / gynecologist to the villages. They will perform screening and medical examinations of woman for cancer and other serious health problems. Quality medical assistance and treatment including free medications will be provided. Consultations for cancer and other disease prevention will be provided. Those who will need for farther treatment, we will organize full access to the specialized health centers for in depth examination and treatment.
Early detection of cancer and any serious gynecological disease may lead to higher rates of successful treatment and extended life, and, therefore, less children becoming orphaned. Besides, this project will give villagers the knowledge about disease prevention and health promotion focused on lifestyle behaviors. The successful implementation of the program will increase the quality of life of the remote communities and prevent those poor but heroic people from abandoning their villages.
