The cornerstone of Jericho's Veterans Initiative is the development of two new supportive housing residences in the Bronx for homeless and low-income veterans.
1 in 5 homeless individuals in the United States is a veteran. More than 130,000 veterans are homeless each night in the United States, with twice as many veterans experiencing homelessness over the course of a year. A growing number of veterans are also severely rent burdened, with 500,000 paying more than 50% of their income on rent.
Jericho Project's 2006 strategic plan identified homeless veterans as a key population to benefit from its unique supportive housing model. Jericho Project's Veterans Initiative includes: The development of new supportive housing for veterans; The creation of an evidence-based veterans service model based on Jericho's proven model;
Jericho Project will serves more than 200 homeless and low-income veterans annually by 2012 and anticipates that least 90% of veterans at our residences will maintain stable, permanent housing.
