Jan 11 Update - 2024 Ishikawa Earthquake Response

By Kaori Neki | Project Leader

This is a report on Civic Force's activities as of January 11, 2024

Hygiene Items Distributed to Evacuation Centers

Suzu City opened 50 evacuation centers around the city with more than 70% of the residents having fled their homes. A lack of safe water caused by the water outage led to worsening hygiene conditions in evacuation center bathrooms.

In partnership with The Players Fund launched by the Japan Professional Baseball Players Association, Civic Force delivered portable toilets from the warehouse in Saga to evacuation centers at two schools. “This is very helpful, thank you so much,” said the school’s vice principal with a sigh of relief.

Evacuation Center Management Guides Distributed

Civic Force also distributed an evacuation center management guide and health hotline information. The management guide addresses handling evacuee intake, keeping common areas clean, and best practices on roles and responsibilities. The health hotline targets women having concerns around menstrual hygiene during evacuation and connects them with healthcare providers via chat.

Water System Installations

Civic Force continued providing safe water to the evacuees using filtration systems invented for disasters. A couple who fled their collapsed home repeatedly thanked Civic Force saying, “We really appreciate the safe drinking water.” Food is also being distributed at the water supply station.

Thanks to your generous support, Civic Force is able to provide the victims with their basic needs. We will continue to work day and night to assist the affected people.
