Providing reproductive health informatiom to more than 100 adolescent girls at Majengo,Kiambiu, and Kinyago slums. This is through peer education ,soccer tournaments and leagues.
Majengo is one of the slums in Kenya that HIV prevalence is high, rape cases, abortion and early pregnancy too. Hardly a week passes without the occurrence of one of the above. Mrembo girls project is providing these girls with information, guidance and counseling through use of sports, theartre and video shows. The girls in turn are in a better position to make informed choices concerning their sexuality and lead healthy lives.
If we provide reproductive health information to these girls and encourage participation in sports then we will be fighting HIV,early pregnancies and marriages, prostitution. Also we will be building and nurturing their self esteem and leadership skills
Mrembo project will be a resource and rescue center for over 200 girls and young women in Majengo slums. The program will reduce HIV infection, sexual abuse, early pregnancy, and abortion among the girls.
Girls who are actively involved in the mrembo program has shown a significant improvement of their grades in school and a positive change of behaviour.
