Regazo de Paz is a safe Home, sheltering up to 15 children at one time, both sexes, from new born to eight years of age. We provide for all their basic needs, access to medical services (speech Therapy, Psychologist, Dentist and others), tutorial, recreation and everything the kids may need. This project will help us provide for all their needs and for medical services and medical supplys, also have a Tutor who will help them with their school work.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
After 18 years of service, we served and sheltered 437 kids from Puerto Rico island. The Department of the Family in Puerto Rico reported from 2011-2012 60,895 cases of abuse children. Not only this, but the instance of child abuse on our island is increasing at an alarming rate. We receive children from all Puerto Rico and work with the effects of the abuse they suffered. It is painful to see how they need to feel love and safe and, for many reasons, some of them stay in the system.
How will this project solve this problem?
At Regazo de Paz, it is never about the numbers of children, but it is about the difference we are able to make in their lives. We provide a safe and loving environment, a Home that will provide for all their needs such as nutrition; clothes, transportation, tutoring, access to medical services and therapy and other they may need. We receive siblings to help them in the traumatic situation of losing their family. We also have children that are alone with no family that will claim them.
Potential Long Term Impact
We have experience: children with bad grades, with our tutorial they are now doing great at school. Kids with ADD and other conditions will be treated by the Physiologist, we experienced that this was a great help in the past. Looking forward to helping all the children we can receive at the Home. With this project we will be able to help 40 kids at the Home, with tutoring, providing for their basic needs and with the medical services, to assure that they will receiving for all they may need.
