Summary

Your donation goes to support our Rescue U program. Rescue U pairs student volunteers from colleges across the country with animal shelters in need of help. Students give up their vacation time from school to help pets and shelter staff in need - from physical repairs to the shelter itself to walking and training dogs, and everything in between.

Challenge

Many shelters are in need of repair and support services for their animals but do not have the operating budgets to implement all the necessary changes. We would like to improve shelter conditions for animals by providing exercise areas, toys, clean housing and raised beds while they are sheltered. Student volunteers from Rescue University will assist in repair of fencing and buildings. Professionals will educate shelter staff to help reduce the overpopulation problem and increase adoptions.

Solution

Providing better infrastructure and education will build the morale and confidence of the shelter staff. Animals will be provided with toys and a comfortable and safe shelter to live in, so they will be stimulated, secure and attractive to potential adopters. Student volunteers assisting in the rehabilitation of shelters learn valuable skills and real working knowledge through hands-on participation, preparing them for future animal rescue efforts.

Long-Term Impact

Homeless pets will be saved. The community receives valuable tools and information and improved shelter conditions for animals and staff. Student experience the overpopulation problem and learn valuable ways to solve it.
