Since February, the Ebola epidemic has been responsible for over 1100 deaths in West Africa. Ebola is a highly contagious disease and kills up to 90% of infected people. There is currently NO KNOWN cure. This project will help to stop the spread of the Ebola virus by providing desperately needed supplies such as personal protective clothing & chlorine to health workers. Project will support the dissemination of information so people can take preventive action and keep themselves safe.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
This Ebola epidemic has been described as being "out of control" and the "deadliest ever"! Over the past 4-5 months, it has spread in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia with over 1100 deaths. Resources specifically in the form of personal protective equipment are desperately needed to help stop this killer disease. Government officials have appealed for global help. The implications and ripple effect of the epidemic is being felt at multiple levels and causing untold suffering.
How will this project solve this problem?
This project will help provide the needed protective equipment / resources to health personnel so that they can keep themselves safe and preventing further spread of the disease. Funds will also enable sharing of information / sensitization (through radio and other media) so that people can take preventive action to protect themselves from infection.

Thousands of lives will potentially be saved from infection and certain death - as this disease is currently incurable.
