Summary

Project is providing a targeted response to the Ebola situation in Sierra Leone. Services provided include essential protective equipment for health workers, community sensitization, relief food and other support to vulnerable communities. Additionally, the project is providing radios and batteries so kids can benefit from school-related radio broadcasts. Efforts are also focused on providing short-term and long-term care and support for Ebola orphans.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The 2014-2015 Ebola Epidemic took West African nations by surprise. The crisis highlighted weaknesses in the overall infrastructure and medical system, practices that did not reflect good public health hygiene etc. The implications and ripple effect of the crisis are being felt at multiple levels and causing untold suffering and hardship. Responding to a crisis of this magnitude requires a set of strategic and targeted actions at several levels.

How will this project solve this problem?

This project provides a range of services including personal protective equipment, medical equipment, health kits, emergency relief aid and Ebola sensitization. Efforts are also focused on providing care for Ebola orphans - including assistance with re-integration, psycho-social support, grief counselling, food and maintenance. Housing assistance is being provided through temporary foster homes and an orphanage.

Potential Long Term Impact

Through this project we will help tackle Ebola and restore normalcy to the people of Sierra Leone - so that they can move on to rebuilding their lives and nation. Our joint, strategic intervention will result in thousands of lives being potentially saved from infection and death.
