The Green Schools Green Map is designed to help our schools become healthier learning environments. Over the last few months, we have met with numerous educators and schools professionals as we develop the process and means of involving students in the annual assessment of their own school's progress. Our plans include testing the process in a limited number of schools, then rolling it out in NYC during the Fall 2008 semester. After we assess and adjust, we will invited schools worldwide to take part.
The Green Schools Green Map will be based within the forthcoming Open Green Map (OGM), our interactive Green Mapmaking website. OGM will make its public debut in September 2008, and by the end of the year, users will be able to peruse the Green Schools Green Map's profiles. Both will utilize the freshly updated and award-winning Green Map Icons, our renowned universal symbol system.
The Green Schools Green Map is initially designed to provide an easily understood self-graded Report Card for all of NYC's schools. Users will be able to report their progress on greening their habits, youth projects, school programs, the school's building and grounds, framed for youth assessment as:
* Green Lifestyles at School
* Nature: Fauna and Flora at School
* Youth Leadership on Campus
* Greening Around the School
* School Building and Grounds Maintenance
Year after year, the Report Cards will track the school’s progress, using Green Map Icons to chart improvements, posted online along with students' school Green Maps, reports and more.
