Mission accomplished! The Mencia Foundation is happy to announce that this project was a success. The children were more than excited with their toys! We had targeted schools in extremely low income areas. Parents are not able to afford much for their kids. Most work in agriculture-related jobs, which are seasonal. They need to wait until the next season in order to receive an income. Please look at the pictures provided to see the kind of homes these families live in. Some of these children had never owned a toy in their lives. Finally they had a chance to own a toy of their own, to share with their friends.

We would like to close this project by saying a big THANK YOU to all our donors. The children have never seen your faces, but we are sure they think of you. Please be proud of what you do.

Again, Thank you!

We would like to take this opportunity, again, to show our appreciation to our generous donors. Thanks to your generosity, children benefited by this project will receive not just a toy, but happiness that they will remember forever.

We would also like to give you an update on the progress of this event. Due to availability of funds, we were not able to send the toys until yesterday. Boxes containing 300+ toys left Boston, MA on December 18th, 2013. The toys will not be there for Christmas but they will arrive just in time for 'The Three Wise Men Day". This holiday is celebrated in the Dominican Republic and other contries on January 6th and it's part of the Christmas holidays.

The Three Wise men, or magi, or kings, visited Jesus after his birth and bringing gold and other gifts to him. They are an important part of Christian traditions. They are belived to be the first religous figures to worship Jesus. The Dominican Republic, which has deep Christian roots, celebrates 'El Dia de Reyes', which translates to 'The Day of the Kings'. This will be a great opportunity to hold the event.

Again, we thank you all for your support and understanding.

Dear Giver,

The above picture is a representation of what you’ve helped us achieve these last few months. With your help, we’ve been able to purchase over 300 toys for children in the Dominican Republic. These toys are being packed and shipped we speak and should be arriving just in time for the holidays. We have coordinated with volunteers in the Dominican Republic to kindly distribute the gifts. We’ll be sending pictures of the children in the near future.

We couldn’t have done this without you and we're very appreciative of your support.

With Sincere Gratitude,

The Mencia Foundation Team

We have received some generous donations and are so glad that this project will soon be a reality. Thanks to these funds we will be able to bring joy to some children in the Dominican Republic. I remember growing up in this country. My parents could only afford ONE toy all year, on Christmas. The happiness I felt could not be expressed with words. I remember the anticipation, counting the days, and not being able to sleep the night before. I remember the smell of the brand new toy. I remember the look on my sisters' and friends' faces, showing off their new cabbage patch doll, or their new tea set. I remember the cheerful tone in my parents' voices, and their laughter, nothing made them happier. I remember the bright sun coming through my window, signaling "It's time, it's here". One toy. That's all it took.

I was lucky to have parents that could afford the one toy. A lot of these children in this developing country are not so lucky. Please help us share the joy we received when we were little. Help us share the blessings we have received. Thank you,

The Mencia Foundation

Let's not forget when we were little. The joy of opening a Christmas present, the excitement of playing with that crisp, brand new toy, the fun and joy when we shared it with our friends. Now it's our turn to share all that with underpriviledge children. So far we have not received any funds for this project. We have gathered information from some of the groups of children we will be helping this Christmas. We believe in this project. Having grown in the Dominican Republic, we are well aware of this need.

In a 2008 study of academic achievement for 3rd and 6th grade students in 16 Latin American countries, the Dominican Republic came in dead last in the areas of math, reading and science (dominicandream.org). We believe that toys can provide children with some of the skills necesary to perform better in class. This is very easy to do and can have such a big impact in these children's lives. With about $20 we can make a difference and put a smile in one child's face this year. Please help us.
