IBREA, in partnership with the Liberian Min. of Education carried out a pilot 3-month Brain Education (BE) project in 2 schools in Monrovia with high number of war-affected children and families. The 12-week curriculum helped them release negative memories from their brain and gain confidence. It also provided them the tools to better manage stress & difficult circumstances. A research was published reflecting its impact regarding stress levels and trauma.Soon to be expanded to more schools.
After fourteen years of war, with children turned into soldiers and infrastructure systematically being destroyed, Liberia faces the challenge of rebuilding its political, social and economic systems. Among many issues to be tackled, children and young people's education and health is crucial for long-lasting peace and stability. IBREA offers a new educational concept that will help them recover their hope & the capacity to create healthy and productive lives for themselves and their communities
Through Brain Education, the beneficiaries of this project will learn new ways to develop their brain and manage themselves and their surroundings in creative & productive ways. Through the training-of-trainers approach, the teachers of the school will be trained to teach other children. Also in view of sustainability, staff from the Ministry of Education will join the implementation team and will be provided with on-the-job training. Our long term goal is to integrate BE in the school system.
If the war-affected children of Liberia learn to wake up their brains and unleash their creative power with a view to improve the world around them, they will change their country's future for the better.
