After having established the Teenage Mothers' Institute in Buea, Cameroon. We are currently training girls and young women entrepreneurs, nurses and health care workers; girls' education support, extensive health and psychosocial support reach out campaigns to schools and communities. To help them build social, health, economic assets, career path exposures and protection they need to thrive among challenges. This is a sustainable development approach to post 2015 development agenda.
Adolescent pregnancy, unwanted child bearing are growing public health concerns in Cameroon. Cameroon is third after Niger and Nigeria in Adolescent pregnancy, childbearing rankings in Sub Sahara Africa. This has serious consequences on mothers, children, families and communities. Mothers and children grow up with high risk of poor health, less education, and poor economic outcomes. Post 2015 Development Agenda for girls is now.This project will affect more than 100 girls and young women yearly.
SODEIT provides education, wealth creation opportunities, health care and assistance to teenage mothers and adolescent girls. Girls and young women are trained in entrepreneurship, sex, health care, finance, nutrition, livelihood skills, career path exposures and, psychosocial support. They receive the tools necessary to practice a trade, make a living and become self reliant leaders of their communities. They are also taught to share their new knowledge with their neighbors as change agents.
Girls are the most powerful force for change on planet earth. We educate and empower 100 girls and young women yearly, allowing them to rise out of poverty, which will provide their families' health, well being, hope, smile, and a future. After graduating our one year program, girls and young women are able to give back to their community and help pull other girls and women out of the cycle of inter-generational poverty and illiteracy. Our goal is to close the gender gap.
