Project Update - May 2012
By Humaira Bokhari | Programme Manager - Employment
Summary of achievements
The month of May seemed favourable as far as recruitment is concerned of PWDs. A total number of 13 persons with disabilities were employed in various areas of work.
However, since the re-launching of our employment programme, which is now known as NRS (NOWPDP Recruitment Services), we have introduced a recruitment fee to companies that employ/use our services for recruitment, but so far we haven’t been too successful in receiving any fee. This fee is part of NOWPDP's shift towards greater self-sustainability. As companies begin to pay service fees, donations for this project will be phased out.
What was achieved this month
- 4 female candidates were inducted as machine operators at Artistic Milliners
- 5 persons were employed by Gul Bahao
- 3 deaf persons were employed by OCS Courier Services
- 1 person was employed at Green Fingers Nursery
What are we proud of
We are inching towards our target of employing 15 PWDs per month. Quite a few number of employed persons were female, which also feels like an achievement.
Monthly goals
- Number of companies met: 5 (planned: 5)
- Number of CVs sent: 28 (planned: 20)
- Number of applicants commencing employment: 13

Project Update - March 2012
By Humaira Bokhari | Programme Manager - Employment
Summary of Achievements:
March 2012 was spent mostly in preparing and holding our launch event of the rebranded Recruitment Services. This service has always been part of our programme but we realised that not many around us were aware of the fact that people with disabilities could be hired directly from NOWPDP.
Hence we held an event that hosted around 120 people across all diversified businesses and walks of life. A video on the previous success stories of people with disabilities hired through NOWPDP was shown, and a few key people who had gained employment were present to meet the companies personally.
What was achieved this month?
- 1 person with a hearing impairment was hired with Universal Brushware pvt and another hired as a helper.
- 1 person with an intellectual impairment was hired on contractual basis by KOGO Tyres
What companies did we meet, or that agreed to take PWDs?
NOWPDP staff met with 2 companies, namely:
- School of Leadership
- South Asian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Television
The above-mentioned companies showed positive response towards hiring. SoL is already offering entrepreneurship to deaf people.
Around 40 different company HR representatives were present at our Recruitment Services Launch amongst which a few have been noted as high-potential leads.
Monthly Goals:
- Number of companies met: 2 (planned: 4)
- Number of applicant CVs sent to employers: 7 (planned: 20)
- Number of applicants commencing employment: 3 (planned: 10)
- Number of applicants selected but not commenced: 3
- Number of companies contacted: 2 (along with the event which hosted around 40 companies)
