Summary
Disaster recovery means rebuilding lives, not just buildings. To that end, we’ll work with disaster survivors to not only rebuild homes, but in education and community development as well.

There are many organisations across disaster affected Asia addressing survivors’ immediate needs, but very few groups are focusing on long term recovery. That’s where we come in. “We’ll start working after other groups begin to leave and provide long term solutions to the challenges survivors face. Our goal is projects which continue to effect lives long after we leave,” said EDV director Andrew Chaggar.
Our projects combine permanent reconstruction with education and the strengthening of community. By providing reconstruction and community support, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of survivors that goes far beyond a handout.
Total Funding Received to Date: $12,345
Remaining Goal to be Funded: $37,655
Total Funding Goal: $50,000
This project has provided additional documentation in a PDF file (projdoc.pdf).
By involving disaster survivors in the process of developing projects, we’ll not only accomplish reconstruction, but we’ll give survivors back a sense of control of their lives and empower communities.
“As the rubble clears… aid workers say there is a less visible but equally vital need – support for traumatized survivors, many of whom have lost their loved ones and everything they own.”
