We've had a very successful year and are now on a brief hiatus as we prepare for the fall semester.
Whew, we trained a lot of teachers this year! They have responded so well and been very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this unique program. As we worked with teachers, we heard a lot about how they need more support from administrators on this issue. It became clear that administrators need to understand that silence does not feel like support to teachers - especially when addressing homophobia in class.
We added a training for administrators and Skyler did a fantastic job helping them discover how they can create a safer school environment for teachers and students who are affected by homophobia. Here's a few of their comments:
“This is the first training like this that I have ever seen. I was engaged and learned so much.” – Administrator, Public Elementary School District
“Loved the format; but especially loved the way Skyler facilitated—very insightful and used participant feedback well.” – Principal, Public High School
“Very powerful way of addressing these issues! The students and Skyler were fantastic.” –Principal, Private Elementary School
“Thank you! I love the use of actors and real scenes.” – Principal, Public Elementary School
“Wonderful way to present and get us to think!” – Principal, K-8 Parochial School
“The training was hands on and had student involvement. Great job! True to life.” – Principal, Private Catholic High School
“I really enjoyed today’s training—great information was given. Will take knowledge back to my school site.” – Assistant Principal, Public Elementary School
“Excellent! Would love for you to come to our district.” – Principal, Public Elementary
“Letting teachers know they have support was most useful.” – Principal,Public Elementary
“Skyler is a wonderful teacher who modeled what he spoke. I am now hopeful that our district will finally talk openly and learn to respond to sexual orientation.” - Principal, Public Elementary School
We're happy with the progress we are making and hope we can raise the funds to reach more teachers and administrators in the upcoming school year. Thanks for helping to make this program possible!
