A crafts project producing high-quality products will provide employment to 30 disabled people who cannot cope on their own in the open labor market in Pretoria, South Africa.
This project caters for people with multiple disabilities, who do not have the physical or intellectual capacity to get employment on their own. Relatives of these individuals are often forced to stay at home to care for them, and thus cannot earn an income for themselves. In some cases entire families survive on one meager government disability grant.
In a protective environment, this project will allow these people to earn an income through being involved in the production of high quality craft products designed by an established local artist.
Beneficiaries will earn an income of their own, many for the first time. This is a boost to their self-esteem and a relief to their families who will be free to pursue employment opportunities of their own.
