Dear Friend,
We hope this report finds you well. We are pleased to share that we recently launched a brand new CoderDojo platform that is fast and user-friendly. This ensures a hassle-free experience for parents/guardians and volunteers, to make Dojos more accessible as well as providing simplified processes, training and resources.
In the last few months we’ve also been busy supporting the global CoderDojo community by hosting a remote workshop at DojoFest in Belgium, ran in-person training sessions, our CEO Philip Colligan spoke at the DojoCon conference in the Netherlands and we collaborated with Dutch and Belgian volunteers to offer a Dojo at FOSDEM in Brussels for their 2024 event. Over in Cape Town, South Africa, we visited our partners at CoderLevelUp and a local councillor, who have set themselves the goal of hosting Dojo’s in every single Cape Town library! We couldn’t be prouder of our colleagues, partners and volunteers who make this all possible.
Not one, not two, but three Coolest Projects events in 2024!
Young digital makers will be able to celebrate their tech creations with Coolest Projects in 2024. Any young creator, anywhere in the world, can join the annual online showcase to share their digital tech projects with the global Coolest Projects community. This year we’ll also be hosting two in-person Coolest Projects events for young creators in the UK, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. We can’t wait to see what everyone creates! Find out all you need to know here.
To help everyone get started with their Coolest Projects entries, we’re also running a series of online meetings and webinars for young people and adult mentors. We’ve got some great sessions scheduled, including hands-on coding using Scratch, micro:bit, and Unity. Plus we’ll be hosting community meetings to keep everyone updated on what’s happening and how to register.
Toshan - a young coder, volunteer and mentor
Your generous support not only helps us to create wonderful free resources and events, but also has an impact on the lives of young coders like Toshan. Toshan's story exemplifies the transformative power of CoderDojo in nurturing young talent; making computer science and digital making accessible to all. Through your contributions, you are enabling us to create a more inclusive and innovative future. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey!
Toshan, a young coder from Bangalore, is passionate about sharing his knowledge and helping others learn to code. At just 14 years old and with the support of his parents and the Raspberry Pi Foundation community, he started organising CoderDojos. Toshan has created a platform to mentor young coders, providing them with a fun and inclusive environment to learn and grow. CoderDojo isn’t just a place to share his interest in computing and technology, he has also discovered how much helping others means to him.
“I actually enjoy helping people with the problems they have. People have different ideas — if we help them go through their approach properly, then they might use their different ideas in different ways, and bring out something new into this world. Mentoring has become a really important part of my life, but it’s actually at night when the entire city has gone to bed that I take out time for myself where I can work on my own projects and dream of what is around the corner.”
We look forward to continuing our work with the CoderDojo community and like Toshan, we will keep dreaming of what is around the corner.
With gratitude and until next time,
Emily
