CHAT (Community Health Africa Trust) works to mitigate suffering and poverty through the use of integrated mobile health services to extremely remote and underserved areas of northern Kenya.
The Laikipia and Samburu regions of northern Kenya are approximately 28,000 sq km. with a scattered population of over 630,000. Bad terrain and lack of infrastructure means lack of access to health services, mostly affecting women and children. CHAT is one of the sole health care providers for these isolated communities that are deeply in need of childhood immunizations, HIV testing and counseling, basic curatives medicines, and most importantly health education.
CHAT has clinics staffed by Kenyan nurses and community based health workers traveling to the underserved communities using innovative mobilities, including camel caravans, vehicles, bicycles, or by foot, depending on the terrain and infrastructure.
Thousands of people living in remote areas will have consistent, reliable, free access to basic health care and health education. Building on CHAT's 10 year relationship with these communities, we can alter health behaviors of entire communities.
